Malaysia, Pakistan Set to Strengthen Trade and Investment Cooperation
KUALA LUMPUR, October 6, 2025 — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Monday reaffirmed his country’s commitment to boost trade and investment ties with Pakistan, emphasizing that Kuala Lumpur is eager to expand economic collaboration with Islamabad in multiple sectors. Speaking at the Pakistan–Malaysia Business and Investment Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia will continue to facilitate and support enterprises from both countries to help achieve stronger bilateral economic growth. He praised the long-standing friendship and mutual respect between the two nations, calling Pakistan a close and trusted partner. In his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif identified several sectors in Pakistan where Malaysian businesses could invest, such as agriculture value addition, mineral exploration, tourism, and industrial development. He said enhanced cooperation in these fields would bring mutual benefits and foster sustainable economic growth for both countries. Shehbaz Sharif encouraged entrepreneurs and investors from Malaysia and Pakistan to form joint ventures, business-to-business partnerships, and technology collaborations. He noted that companies establishing operations in Pakistan could take advantage of the country’s strategic location, which serves as a gateway to major regional and global markets. > “Through collective efforts, our two nations can open new avenues of trade, investment, and industrial cooperation,” the Pakistani premier said confidently. Highlighting Pakistan’s improving economy, Shehbaz Sharif pointed out that inflation has fallen to single digits and the policy rate stands at 11 percent, reflecting the country’s stabilizing macroeconomic outlook and growing investor confidence. Both leaders expressed optimism that enhanced economic engagement between Malaysia and Pakistan would deepen bilateral relations and create new opportunities for trade, technology exchange, and industrial collaboration.
