Lionel Richie Exposes Michael Jackson’s Unusual Habit in New Memoir
Lionel Richie Exposes Michael Jackson’s Unusual Habit in New Memoir Legendary singer Lionel Richie has shed light on a rarely known side of his close friend Michael Jackson, revealing the King of Pop’s eccentric personal habits in his debut memoir Truly. The All Night Long hitmaker, now 76, disclosed that Jackson was once humorously nicknamed “Smelly” due to his tendency to overlook basic hygiene routines. > “Michael’s daily life was what you could call eccentric — like an absent-minded professor but still very much a child at heart,” Richie wrote. Quincy Jones’ Running Joke Richie recalled how music producer Quincy Jones often teased Jackson about his quirk. Despite sometimes going a couple of days without changing or washing his clothes, Jackson would simply laugh it off, seemingly unbothered by the playful nickname. A Star Lost in Creativity Richie stressed that Jackson’s lifestyle was deeply tied to his relentless dedication to music and performance. > “He was either on stage wearing elaborate costumes designed by his stylists, or at the studio in pajama bottoms and slippers. At home, he’d be in something loose so he could practice his dance moves or play with his collection of pets,” Richie shared. Family Man with Unique Traits According to Richie, Jackson maintained a close bond with his mother and siblings. But once he achieved global superstardom as a solo artist, he became the captain of his own ship — quirks included. > “Michael laughed along with us, realizing he was often oblivious,” Richie added. “At the end of the day, we all have our quirks.”
