King Charles Urged to Resolve Prince Andrew’s Title Controversy Once and for All
October 2, 2025 – Calls are mounting for King Charles III to take decisive action regarding Prince Andrew’s Duke of York title, as its association with scandal continues to damage the monarchy’s reputation. A report by Sky News Australia lifestyle writer Reilly Sullivan argues that the royal family must find a permanent solution to the issue, with the dukedom now widely viewed as “toxic” and “disgraced.” Prince Andrew’s Scandal and Epstein Connection Prince Andrew’s name has been clouded by controversy ever since his ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came to light. In 2022, photographs surfaced supporting accusations by Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was exploited by Epstein and coerced into an inappropriate relationship with the Duke of York when she was only 17. Giuffre’s death last year, shortly before the release of her book, reignited public discussion about Andrew’s royal role and legacy. Why Action Has Been Delayed Sullivan noted that King Charles, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, may lack the energy to take firm action against his younger brother and the York family. Despite Andrew’s fall from grace, the King has reportedly softened toward Sarah Ferguson, Andrew’s ex-wife, allowing her to rejoin family gatherings since he ascended the throne. The Burden on Prince William’s Future Reign The article also suggested that if King Charles avoids making the decision, the responsibility will eventually fall to Prince William once he becomes monarch. According to Sullivan, William will need to “ensure the Yorks are reduced to a footnote in royal history.” The Fate of the York Dukedom Traditionally bestowed upon the monarch’s second son, the Duke of York title has become so controversial that Sullivan argued it should “go extinct rather than be passed on.” The report concluded that removing the title may be the only way to draw a permanent line under Prince Andrew’s troubled legacy.
